Why?????????
My mom said I should menshun that sometimes I get headaches awhile after the key us turned. Sometimes it hurts me on the sides of my eyes near my cheeks. Omaha well I am going to my brothers boy scout thing now. Have a nice day.

Thank you for writing to me!

Thank you for your comments. Now I know I am helping somebody. Actually I do now that I am helping a lot of people who might have to get the palate expander and that are actually going through it right now but maybe have not caught up to the same part as I am now. It is a little hard but i still do it. The key hurts me a lot but the next day it gets a lot better. When my Mom turns the key it really  helps. it gives a lot of pain to me but it gets better quickly. Like right now Mommy did the key about 15 minutes ago but now it feels better and I am eating chocolate cake with sea salt on it. The cake tastes really good. it tastes better than a normal cake. You just make a vanilla cake with choclate frosting, and then put sea salt on it and wait for it to cool for like 5 minutes, maybe 4 minutes or 3 minutes or 2 minutes or 1 minute. It was my idea for the sea salt. You might think its gross but really when you taste the frosting and the rest of the cake combined, it tastes WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wE FOUND these pictures on line. This is a BEFORE picture, not of my teeth but what my mouth looked like I think when i got this put on. It looks like an egg shape.

This is what my mouth is supposed to look like after. Pretty good. Pretty, pretty good! What do you think?. It looks like half an oval!!!!!

Here is me with my teeth mold. Maybe you can ask your dentist for yours too for a souvenier!

This is me and my friend Zachary before we went to Karate. Zachary is the one with the blond hair in case you don't know. I want to put an arrow but my Mom doesn't know how to do that.
So if you have any questions for me, leave me a comment, okay?
Good night. Thank you for reading my blog. I like doing the blog.

I almost choked on a cucumber but I am okay.

Today my mom took me and my brother to Magic Wingls Butterfly place in massachussetts. It was a loooong ride but my mom gave me a Phineas and Ferb book activity book so I worked on that and of course I had a dvd player to watch a Mario video. TheThen wewent to the Yankee Candle Factory and I got to dip my hand in hot wax. It was not so bad but I made a cool claw!
That is my claw!

So I have to tell you about my palate expander now. I do not like it but my mom says she is beginning to see a difference in my mouth so this is a good thing. I have 13 more times to have the key. That is not so bad. Tonight I did not cry so much. I just wanted to play the Wii so even though it is not the weekend my mom said because it is vacation i can play it but i have to be in bed by 8 so I will do this and then go play. My mom is helping me type some of this so I can go play. Thank you Mommy!
I have to tell you something funny about my palate expander. When my Mom does it now, she lays me down.  Tonight she laid me down on our kitchen island where there is good light and when she did, she didn't realize that there were two hamburgers there and she put her arm in the ketchup and the mustard on the burger. haha.
I will be happy when this thing is off. I cannot wait but my Mom keeps telling me that I am helping others by writing this so I am doing a good deed. Now I want to play the Wii. Good night.

the key hurted

the key hurted. Thats it for today. The end.
From Your Friend,
Colin

p.s....note from Colin's Mom...its tough to turn the key and be the one who is causing discomfort on your child. Colin cries a lot but we try to distract him with drinking ice water before and after and trying to distract as much as we can. He is also the one who has to mark the chart so it gives him something to do. This is a big guilt thing on the parent, at least from my perspective and I can tell you my husband is not disappointed that I am the one doing this, at least that is what I think from his looks :).

Me and my grandmother and the BUCKS!

tHIS IS ME AND MY GRANDMOTHER AND THE MONEY, HONEY!

The Nine Bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got hurt in my mouth with the key thing. It hurt because it twisted too far back already. My Grandma was here and my Grandpa was here and so is the Oma. They are here for a party with me and my brother for our birthdays. I got a marshmallow shooter but I took part of the marshmallow shooter off and stuffed part of it with cotton and blew out the other end and boom! Right now the cotton looks like a dog.
My Grandma was watching when my Mom did the key. It actually really hurt. It still hurts. I got $8 from my Grandmother and $1 from my mom. I got the money because I got the key twisted in my mouth. My mom said she will double it every day. I will be rich! in a couple days I will be really rich.

Half an hour later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is only a half hour after by the way and its not hurting anymore. Just wanted to tell you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think it didn't hurt after a few minutes. Have to go clean the basement with my mom.
P.SSS,... I don't see the space in the middle of my teeth yet. When is that going to happen, I wonder?????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate this thing. Whenever I bite, it hurts. My mom had to turn it. It hurted a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have to do this 18 more times and then I get a break. Finally. That will be my happy day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My mom has to do this one stinkin time a day.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have a chart we have to mark so my mom made me mark it with a grey marker to show we did it. i did it at 4:30 in the middle of eating grapes and then my mom said it was THE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So she did it and I cried!!!! But then my mom gave me water in a cup with ice and I dropped a grape in it and then she made me gargle and told me to gargle songs. So I choked! I tried gargling the ABC's but after I finished the letter D, I started choking. It was BAD. iT WAS BAD TO THE BONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thats it for today. We'll continue tomorrow right here on Kids News.

He is bad to the bone. His name is Duncan and he is from my favorite show Total Drama Island.

here is a video

So I am online with my mother seeing if we can hookup this blog to other peoples blogs and we found this video. it is not really the same kind as mine but close to it. Okay, so I did not know that my teeth in the front were going to give me a big space! What is up with that? But my mom said the dentist said it today. My key is a little different and so is my palate expander which is a little different looking too but it will give you an idea of what it is like. Looks kind of scary but really, this is OKAY. Calm down. It is really fine. The only one who will probably freak out is your mothther.
http://azureortho.com/products
if we find out what the kind is that I have exactly and there is a video for it I will post that too so you can see exactly what I have going on in my mouth.

Back to the dentist - Time to Turn the Key - Dun Dun Dun Dun!!!!!!!!!!

Here I am at the dentists office. I can play video games. Cool!

This is the fake mouth my mom had to practice turning the key on. She was freaking out a little bit. The key is the long blue stick with the pointy thing. The pointy thing goes in a hole and you have to flip it back.

this is Judy. She is not really doing anything. She is faking it for the picture. haha

This is the good part. I get ANOTHER PRIZE! yEAH!
It hurt when they put the key in. It hurt for like 4 seconds. Now I am home. We picked up my brother and I am eating crackers. If you are getting a palate expander, STOP READING THOSE HORRIBLE STORIES ONLINE LIKE ME AND MY MOM DID. I will tell you the truth. So far it does not hurt so bad. Well my Mom was the one who turned the key at the dentist. Judy the woman at the dentists office showed her how to do it on a fake mouth. The fake mouth was made of plastic. It had crooked teeth. I don't think my teeth are that crooked. I don't know. I will worry about that later.
Good news: Judy said my mom onlyhas to turn the key for like a few months and then this thing stays in like a retainer for awhile and my mom does not have toturn it anymore then. I think that is good news.
News number two: I have piano lessons in a little while and I think it will be okay because I have no pain. Yeah!!

Happy Valententine's Day from me, Colin. I know I am one day late. Me and my mom found this picture on the computer. I think it is funny.
On Thursday I am getting my palate expander tightened for the first time. I think it willhurt. Last week when they put this thing on my teeth they showed my mom how she has to tighten in. So they did it. IT HURRRRRRRRRT! and now my mom has to do it EVERY DAY FOR ME! She is the torturer! Too bad because I love her. Oh well.
Really, I just want this off.
My mom says I have to give you advice now. Do not worry so far. I figured out how to eat food. Today I even had a double cheeseburger with extra pickles. I don't know if when they tighten it if I will be able to eat. I will write again on Thursday after my piano lesson and after the dentist.
Have a good day. I have to do my homework now. Do you have homework? I have alphabetical order words to do. This is rough homework!

I'm Getting A Little Used To It.

When I wore up this morning, I remembered I had it, the palate expander.  I'm not drooling a lot. When I drink it goes into my palate expander but it leaks out after like 4 seconds.
For breakfast, I had chocolate milk and a pudding snack. My mom took me and my brother and Liam, Justin's friend, to China town today. That is whereJustin wanted to go for his birthday. Everyone got Dunkin Donuts but I am not allowed to eat bread or donuts while I have this thing on, so my mom brought pudding and I got to buy a chocolate milk. We had cheerios for me too. The cheerios, I had a problem on my first one, so I didn't even eat the rest. I couldn't get it to go down my throat. It didn't get stuck, I just had a problem getting it down my throat.
I drank a lot of water today.
I liked Chinatown a lot. It was awesome. I loved everything except the snow, the ground, and it was all dirty. There was a big parade because it was Chinese New year. Every road that we went on, had different parades going on. They had these guys dressed up in costumes going from door to door of all the stores and restaurants.

Me in Chinatown with Liam and Justin

These are those costume guys I told you about.

So now it was time to eat. We went to a chinese restaurant. Of Course! I ate chinese noodles and wonton soup. I ate a wonton. I just ate it normal. I ate up little pieces with my front teeth, like little, and the meat was actually quite easy to eat. I don't remember if it got stuck a little bit. It did, so I used my finger to get the piece out and then I swallowed it.  I am using my tongue to move it back and forth. I did it with my mouth closed so no one would know but now you know. You take the top of your tongue and kind of flip the food back into your throat.
My mom says if I am going to eat, I am going to have to start chewing somehow so I don't choke.
My mom said not to look at the coke cans because coke is bad for you.

My List

Here is a list I decided to make of what you can do with a palate expander at age 8 on day #2.
Eat
Burp
Pass Gas
Drink
Watch TV
Write this stuff on the computer
Play Hey Moshi Monsters
Do my homework even when I don’t want to
Hug my mom
Play games
Make pillow forts
Sleep
Watch TV
Things That Are so Far hard to do with a palate expander at age 8 on day 2
Eat bread
No brownies – sad
No cake – good thing my birthday was last week!
All meat. I tried fish sticks last night cut up and I thought I was going to choke! Not Good!
Maybe soon I can eat meat again but instead I want to have a piece of celery or a good crunchy cucumber.
Do you know my first word when I was a baby was “boobumber.” Wish my mother could find the picture of me holding 2 cucumbers that my mom said she took. She is always putting things in her “safe places.”
So far all of this does not hurt. It’s a pain. My mom said it must be a pain in the tookas.

Day Two of Having this Thing in my mouth!

2/11/11

I think I look like a freak with this thing in my mouth. I don't like the picture my mother took.

Today my mom is freaking about what to feed me. So for breakfast, she made a chocolate shake!
Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuumy
She gave my brother one too. He is 11 years old. He doesn’t have one of these palate expanders but he sure loves ice cream! No complaints!
For lunch my Mom gave me lipton chicken noodle soup with a straw and chocolate pudding.
When I got dropped off, I showed a lot of my friends to see what I had in my mouth. Mrs. Parkhurst, my teacher, even wanted to see it too. So I showed them. I brought in my mold and I showed my friends my miniature tooth brush too in the morning and at lunch. One comment was that it was a “baby toothbrush” and that made me feel a little bad. They didn’t apologize.  No one even said a thing about me speaking funny. I felt good about that. Mommy said I sound like I have a bad cold.
I started drooling in class. I keep sucking it in with my mouth closed before it comes out.  There is a lot of spit in there. A whole bunch today.
I had lunch. I did good. I had my soup. All I did was suck up the liquid and noodles with my straw and did the left over noodles with my spoon. The noodles got stuck up there a little but then they came down.
To eat you have to push with your tongue back and forth and back and forth to get the food that is stuck up there to come out.

Dun Dun Dun Dun...The big day that I get this...My unhappy day

2/10/11 Today is the day! DUNDUNDUNDUN   BAD!
Today I went back to the dentist. The hygienist gave my mold. The mold was really cool but it was solid white. The mold felt as hard as a brick and like dry cement. I saw my top teeth and there was a teency bit of yellow and eensy weensy dots of pink on it. It had my first name and my last name on it and the date on it which was 2/10/11. Then  she took the spacers out. Goodbyyyyyeeee spacers! It was nice knowing them! Too bad I couldn’t keep them. They would have been a good souvenier! The hygienist had to try on my palate expander. When she put it on, I kind of liked it. I had to bite down on this white stick thing for the brackets to snap on. I had a hard time biting on it because of the palate expandkind of
hurt when I bit down and that’s how I feel now. Will get to that in a minute. Then she took it off. Then the dentist came in and said hello. Now he had to put the palate expander back in my mouth. He had to cement it on.And I had to bite on the stick again. I was really nervous but when I was able to leave, I felt better because I wasn’t in there anymore. I walked out of the dentist room and got my fourth prize. I got a dark, reddish, more pinkish slinky and then I walked out with my mom. My mom talked to the lady outside of the dentist office – the receptionist. While my mom was doing that, and I played a level  of Mario Kart on Xbox and then I started playing with a pinball or a watchmacallit at the dentist.
When I got home, I played but then I got hungry, Really hungry. It is hard to swallow food. The food keeps getting stuck in my palatte expander. I had to use this miniature tooth brush, mega short, about 2 – 4 inches long to try and get the food out with it. I got almost all the food out with it. The food I ate was first scrambled eggs but they got stuck, but then I ate chocolate pudding and that the pushed the eggs out. Then I drank some water.
I don’t know if I am going to go to school tomorrow. I don’t know what to do. Tomrorow is my 100th day of school and I want to go but I am worried about what I can eat for lunch. Yes, yes I am.
Oh, my speech , when I say words like “clear”, they sound weird. I have a hard time saying “clearly” or other words like that. The dentist said this will all get better. I have to have it on for a long time.
Hasta Luego. Till tomorrow

Uh oh!

2/9/11
At school today, after lunch, an hour later probably, I was working and then I felt my blue, right spacer with my tongue and I felt it and it broke. It split! So I raised my hand in school. My teacher called on me and I asked if I could go to the nurse. I told the Nurse the problem and then she called my mom to tell her what had happened. Then my mom called back and she said I had a dentist appointment tomorrow and I was getting my blue spacers taken out anyway.

Almost there...to get it I mean

Monday, 2/8/11
Today I had to go back to the dentist. The only reason so far that I do not mind is because every time you go there, they give you a toy. The hygienist put new spacers in my teeth. It didn’t hurt. I got a prize. I got 3 of them.  I got 2 slinkys and 1 parachute monkey. Cool!
If you are getting spacers, just know after a couple of days they start to hurt.

Day Three - Before I get it in

Now I had to go back to the dentist AGAIN and get spacers put in my teeth. They put 2 in at the top.
One on the left and one on the right. They were blue. The dental hygienist put them in. When they put them in, it kind of hurt a little. Then after a minute, it stopped hurting.  When I had them in my mouth, it was like they were never even there. Sometimes you could feel them when you were chewing.  Then a few days later, they took them out and I forgot to mention all of this before, because then they made a mold of my teeth. They put metal brackets in my mouth for the mold. Then they took everything out and I had to wait a few weeks.
Just to let you know...I have been writing this microsoft word with my mom and just decided to write a blog today so if I mess up what has already happened, oh well. I will start blogging every day because my mother says it will be good for my writing skills and maybe whoever is reading this will learn what it is like.

Day Two - The XRay and the Mold

I had to go back to the dentist today. I am not happy. I had to have an x-ray. So I had to stand there and open my mouth wide. Then they took the xray of my teeth. It is like a camera taking a picture. This did not hurt. It was annoying.
The dentist had to make a mold of my teeth. They put this yucky, cold stuff on this thing I had to bite down on. They asked me first if I wanted a flavor on it. They said they have plain, cherry, or orange. I decided I wanted plain. This was very yucky. I did not like it but it doesn't hurt. I like it when it doesn't hurt. Thats a good thing.

Day One - December 2010

Hi. It is me, Colin. I am not happy today. Today I went to the dentist and they told my mom, "yes, he will need a palate expander." My mother is freaking out.
